Through the wilderness...

David Moyer accepted the call to Conference minister at probably the most interesting* time in the Conference’s history. His presentation this morning was but a glimpse of what he is dealing with. What he needs to hear from us, as do each and all of our leadership dealing with the necessity of restructuring, is:
1) Thank you. Very much.
2) You are not alone. Not at all.
And if applicable:
3) You can retire in 3 years or when the Dow hits 10,000 which ever comes first.
Humor aside, we are fortunate to have David.
So, in addition to ‘thank you’ what words do you have for David today?

*As in the Oriental curse “May you live in interesting times.”

  1. David is most certainly not alone. The restructuring, while being a topic of great discussion for many across our Wisconsin Conference, is especially important among those of us who are In Care of the various Associations. As we go about our processes, what will the church that we serve look like? How long will it look that way, and how will it work/function? David touched on the fact that ordinations are not keeping up with retirements, and revenues are dropping while expenses continue their upward climb. The question of "How will this church change" is no longer ideological, it is practical and of great and immediate importance and has lasting ramifications way beyond both the geographic and programmatic boundaries of the Conference.

I pray for the Spirit's guidance -- and maybe a little fire-under-the-butt prodding -- for not just David but the Board and all of the leaders, present and future, and all of the people impacted by the Wisconsin Conference.
